I love a good comedy and strangely, we don’t tend to get that many comedies these days from the US. Bucking the trend is “Rooster” from HBO Max. Starring Steve Carell as a college lecturer (Greg Russo) working on a campus with his daughter. A 10 episode series with a large and well known ensemble cast. This show was a launch show for the newly launched HBO Max in the UK with weekly episodes.

Already a series 2 has been commissioned after attracting quite large audiences worldwide. Certainly a reason on its own to subscribe to the HBO Max streamer.
I found the series to be a gentle watch but appealing. It didn’t appear to be laugh out loud initially but that changed after a few episodes as the cast of characters builds and many funny moments. A good watch if you need cheering up with lots of funny adult relationship type situations to entertain.
Carell is so funny and amusing to watch. A childlike character in many ways, trying to act the adult. The on screen dialogue with his daughter Katie played by Charley Clive is an important part of the show. Clive being very watchable as she manoeuvres through awkward and funny uncomfortable moments with her dad.
If you’re looking for a new comedy, give this one a go. I’ve finished the series and can’t wait for the next one.
Rooster follows bestselling novelist Greg Russo, who takes a position at a small liberal arts college where his daughter works after his marriage falls apart. Set against the chaos of campus life, the series blends awkward comedy, family drama and midlife reinvention as father and daughter try to rebuild their relationship.
