During the summer of 2025, I noticed a lot of films that I was interested in seeing at the cinema advertised.

At the time, I figured a minimum three-month Cineworld Unlimited membership would cover all the films I wanted to see. However, it didn’t feel like a significant saving so I didn’t buy it. My reasoning was flawed though because I hadn’t considered I’d likely watch many more films and enjoy other benefits.

It wasn’t until later in mid October of 2025 that I subscribed and I haven’t looked back. I am lucky that the Cineworld cinema that I use is just a mile away. So when my September subscription is taken in a few weeks, I will have paid subscriptions for an entire year.

Pros

One monthly fee gains you access to any film and if you enjoy cinema, can save you money. I normally visit at least once a week and pay £18 a month. So I easily get good value.

Discounts off event cinema and 25% off cinema food and from some restaurants. I regularly buy pick and mix, drinks and popcorn.

Special Unlimited preview screenings of films. These are a little like buses in how often they are scheduled, but are effectively previews for unlimited card holders only.

The membership encourages you to watch films you may otherwise pass on. Over the past year, I have probably seen close to 80/90 films. Many I would not have been able to see without the pass. Some that I also took a chance on and enjoyed.

You can also book seats for friends and family who are also unlimited members. This is handy and I regularly book tickets for my wife to join me.

Helps support UK cinema. Bearing in mind many cinemas nearly closed after Covid, it helps support strengthen the cinema network again.

Film viewing experience on large screen is superior to watching at home. The sound and picture quality is outstanding. When I watch films at home after previously watching in the cinema, the experience just is not the same.

Less likely to be distracted in the cinema and more likely complete the film. That’s not to say that interruptions do not happen but I certainly would not get my phone out unlike home.

Cheaper to watch films this way than pay for digital downloads or stream. And of course you see the latest films first.

You can visit any Cineworld with your membership. I’ve done this a few times and it is handy. We visited Cineworld at the O2 London and NEC Birmingham when my daughter was at gigs. Depending on location and your current membership, you may have to pay an upgrade fee.

Cons

Another monthly subscription (though you can pay annually). Subscriptions are the norm but this is likely my fave sub as I get such good value from it. In reality, I could probably do without some of the other subscriptions to stream films now.

The Cineworld app needs an overhaul as functionality is a little limited and occasion has glitches. It serves the purpose but it could be so much better. It needs some work and updating.

A max of five advance bookings at any one time. I understand why, it is likely to stop “no shows” probably as unlimited members can book and then not attend. A workable solution to book more screenings in advance would be appreciated.

The supported restaurants are a little limited. This benefit needs an overhaul and local restaurant arrangements as well. My Cineworld does not have any of the advertised chains nearby.

The food discount can encourage you to spend more. Just be careful, it is tempting and part of the business model.

Overall

I believe that the positives and savings being a member of a cinema scheme outweighs any cons. I really do get good value from the membership, and I always look forward to my cinema nights.

I’m glad I finally got a card after many years thinking about it. My favourite subscription for entertainment and wouldn’t be without it.
