Not a film that was on my watch list, as I am not the true demographic. I was one of only a few male viewers in the cinema, with most of the audience being women of a certain age. How would my views compare to my wife’s, and would I enjoy it? With the film shortly disappearing from cinemas, it has had a relatively short run.

It plays like the female version of The Hangover, and features a talented cast including Anna Faris, Leslie Mann, Michelle Buteau, and Isla Fisher.

The story and laughs are predictable, yet the film was well-received by the audience. It is lightly amusing with a paint-by-numbers plot, supported by an appropriate soundtrack. Most scenes being fully scored with backing music. Story and comedy wise, nothing was unique and most gags had all been seen and done before. To its credit, it was quite feel-good though.

The ending is predictable and leaves the door open for a follow-up. I particularly enjoyed watching Isla Fisher, who brings a little extra spark, while Anna Faris is, of course, well known for comedy and was also entertaining to watch.

The closing credits feature some funny outtakes to finish. It is a short film, but given the content, it runs at the right length. It is definitely one for the ladies wanting a night out and a laugh. My wife very much enjoyed the film and hopes for a part 2.

Written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, Spa Weekend follows four childhood best friends who reunite for a luxury getaway at the Solaris Resort to escape the stresses of daily life and celebrate a birthday. The peaceful retreat quickly unravels into chaotic disaster when a last-minute invite brings along Mel, whose reckless antics—ranging from accidentally getting a friend fired to crashing a golf cart and throwing an unauthorized party—land the group in police custody. Driven by a newfound realization of Mel’s underlying loneliness and financial struggles, the friends rally together to make amends and salvage their enduring bond, setting the stage for a fresh start.
