Series 4 of Trigger Point was an enjoyable watch and I was addicted to binging it immediately. After a slightly below-average first series a few years back, this show has gone from strength to strength, with each series getting better.

The narrative delves into previous season storylines slightly while introducing new story elements for EXPO Lana Washington. It features Lana attending counselling, following recent traumatic events and a story arc that spans the entire series. Vicky McClure delivers an excellent and believable portrayal as Lana, perfectly cast in her role. It is also a relief to see the return of Nabil Elouahab as Hass, who thankfully features heavily in early season episodes (not so much at the end).

The terrorism threat is full-on and reminiscent of the older tv show 24. While the counter-terrorism team and bomb disposal units occasionally blur lines and appear as experts in every field imaginable, it undeniably keeps the show interesting and watchable. High budgets (on the whole) and impressive production values help drive a fast pace, though the final two episodes drag slightly and feel a bit too drawn out. The end is still good though and does wrap things up.

For newcomers, all the Trigger Point series are available to stream on ITVX, and you really need to watch from the beginning to fully appreciate the plot. Whether the show will return remains to be seen; it finishes in a way that could conclude things, but like most successful dramas, opportunities to keep going certainly exist. Bolstered by sharp twists near the end, it is well worth a watch.
